Tech-Bond Solutions
"When performance is a must!"

Foam Safe BA's are used in the Radio Control (RC) hobby for "foamies", planes made with open cell foams.

Note: A foam safe adhesive is required to glue these planes.

See the list below for which Bonding Agent to use for each of the foams common in the Radio Control marketplace.

Foam Safe (FS) Blue & Foam Safe 1000 - solutions for a variety of problems.

Open cell foams
Standard cyanoacrylates, including super glues, melt open cell foams.  The most common open cell foam is ordinary packing styrofoam.  In the Radio Control marketplace, open cell foams include Depron®, polystyrene and the pink and blue foams used in one piece planes.  Tech-Bond's foam safe bonding agents do not harm these open cell foams.

Closed cell foams
Closed cell foams such as EPP and EEP are polymers which are SI products will bond extremely well.  Despite being polymers these foams do not require pretreatment with our Poly Prep.

Sensitivity to cyanoacrylates
Super glues,  and all other cyanoacrylates, have a sharp, pungent odor which has caused an allergic reaction with some individuals.  Tech-Bond's FS
Blue
and Foam Safe 1000 may be the solution.

Important Note:
Foam Safe Bonding Agents are slow!!!  A Foam Safe Accelerator/Activator is recommended for efficient bonding whenever foam safe adhesives are used.

Tech-Bond's Foam Safe (FS) Bonding Agents

Foam Safe Blue

FS Blue
is our standard viscosity low odor, low bloom product with a cP rating of 100.  Both of our foam safe bonding agents are low odor (reduced fumes) and low bloom (won't fog clear substrates) which may allow them to be used by individuals sensitive to CA's or where maintaining substrate appearance is vital.

Foam Safe 1000
Foam Safe 1000 is thicker and, because open cell foams are very porous, may be the bonding agent to use when trying to glue these foams.

RC Foams and which Bonding Agent to use.

Gluing BluCore
BluCore is a closed cell foam.  Therefore our SI products will work with BluCore.

Gluing Depron®
Depron® is another poly foam, but with different gluing characteristics in regard to gluing Depron® with Tech-Bond products.  If building with Depron®, use one of our foam safe products.  If repairing Depron®, use any of Tech-Bond's SI products.  The slight melting that occurs on Depron® with an SI product will only strengthen the repair.

Gluing EEP
EEP is a form of expanded polypropylene.  Tech-Bond Solutions (TBS) has glued this form of expanded polypropylene with all of our SI products and without using the Poly Prep.

Gluing EPP or Extruded Polypropylene
Tech-Bond Solutions (TBS) has glued EPP with each and everyone of our SI products and without using the Poly Prep.

Gluing EPS or Expanded Polystyrene
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is one of the more challenging foams to bond.  Often EPS has a clear poly sheeting which covers the the EPS core.  To effectively glue or bond onto the poly sheeting, our Poly Prep must be used.

Since Tech-Bond's SI products melt EPS, our foam safe adhesives are recommended for bonding EPS.  However, in limited testing, if the polystyrene is primed with the Poly Prep, our SI products glue EPS without damaging the foam.  Updates to follow.

Gluing Pink and blue one piece foam planes. (some white).
There are a number of one piece foam planes which are made with open cell foams.  Use one of our FS products for these planes.   A reminder:  Foam safe accelerators may be required to effectively bond these materials.
